About James
'Always play with passion'
Strive for the best
James Cox is a composer, orchestrator, musical director and pianist based in Brighton (UK), who specialises in music for film, media, games and theatre.
His film music combines elements of orchestral, electronic, acoustic and synthesised genres to create imaginative and diverse soundscapes that blend seamlessly with the rest of the soundtrack, enhancing the drama and developing instinctive and immersive musical scores, while his non-dramatic works explore melodic, harmonic and textural devices so as to construct organic, evocative and colourful compositions.
Over the past few years James has written music for documentaries, adverts and corporate videos – including work for NFTS, Lloyds, as well as composing for dozens of short films and animations.
His theatre work includes a combination of composition and musical direction, including scores for THE COLONY, THE LOST PLAY OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, JACK & THE BEANSTALK and THE LAST LUNCH. His musical directing has involved his own scores but also GUYS & DOLLS, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, HAIRSPRAY, SWEENEY TODD, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, FAME, RENT and many more.
James is originally from Frimley in the south east of England, where he began his musical journey as a chorister going onto study music at the University of Chichester, specialising in composition, orchestration and arranging. He is frequently engaged as a performer and accompanist for top performers and events in London and the wider UK.
